A Liverpool businessman has unleashed his pedal-power after completing a mammoth four-day cycle ride from London to Paris, raising almost two grand for R Charity.
Steve Hunt, managing director of mechanical and electrical engineering design consultant, Steven A Hunt & Associates, and his son Joe, cycled in excess of 70 miles a day to reach the French capital on schedule - smashing their initial fundraising target of £1,500, to raise £1,900 on the fourth and final day.
The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust’s R Charity is raising funds to provide the latest high-technology equipment for diagnoses and treatments in the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital, ensuring Merseyside patients and beyond have access to world-class healthcare.
Steve’s ride was split into different stages to tackle the various terrains along the 280-mile route, but after ample practice in the Peak District in the month leading up to the cycle, the father and son duo had no problems in reaching the busy boulevards of Paris.
Steve said:
“R Charity is a cause that is very close to my heart as they helped me when I faced some serious health issues a few years ago. It was an honour to do the cycle for them and when I was struggling with tiredness, the motivation to hand the cheque over to them drove me over the line.
“Reaching Paris alongside my son was a moment I will remember for a very long time and I am sure that a similar charity event for 2018 will now be on the cards. I’d like to thank everybody that donated to our Just Giving page and supported our efforts along the way.”
