Chorley-based Runshaw Business Centre has appointed a new assessor to expand its Professional Cookery and Hospitality provision.

Devin Smith, 45, from Chorley has more than 20 years’ experience of working in the catering industry and spent 18 years working as head chef at Verdes Italian restaurant in Eccleston.

With his broad knowledge of the industry, Devin will be supporting 30 young chefs on a one-to-one basis, developing their understanding of different cuisines and ensuring they can prepare a wide range of dishes to a professional standard.

Devin will also be responsible for overseeing apprentices at The Bistro on Runshaw’s Langdale Road campus, which is a training facility where learners develop their culinary skills and serve a range of lunches and meals to staff and members of the public.

Speaking of his appointment, Devin said: “I am looking forward to working at Runshaw and I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience of working in the catering industry for many years.

“The position is different to any of my previous roles and offers many new challenges but I am confident that I can share all the skills I’ve learned to help prepare apprentices for their future careers.”

Adrian Roscoe, business centre manager at Runshaw added: “Devin’s hard work and determination to succeed has made him the perfect candidate for this role and his knowledge, experience and understanding of the industry will help our learners gain the essential skills to achieve their full potential.”
