Expansion brewing for Pot Kettle Black

Speciality coffee house, Pot Kettle Black (PKB) is expanding its premises in Barton Arcade, Deansgate, launching a new brunch menu and recruiting new staff to join the talented team of baristas.

Expansion brewing for Pot Kettle Black

"We take great care and pride in each cup of coffee we serve and Mancunians are recognising the difference in flavour and quality of speciality coffees."

The popular speciality coffee bar is closed until 6th June while refurbishment works take place; which will include a new kitchen - serving a new seasonal brunch menu - and a new express hatch for coffee and healthy breakfasts to go. The renovated premises will expand into what was the infamous Tracy's sandwich shop next door. The new space will now allow for an additional 20 covers and more great coffee, served in the same PKB atmosphere.

The team is also recruiting for new charismatic, experienced baristas with a passion for coffee and food.

Jon Wilkin, co-founder of Pot Kettle Black with business partner, Mark Flanagan, says: “The site we are in is perfect for attracting leisure and business customers so it made sense to expand our premises to cope with the growing demand we are experiencing. Since our launch in October 2014, we have served over 100k drinks and we’re looking to take turnover to £800k following the expansion.

“Lunchtime is our busiest time with people often queuing out of the door so we knew we had to offer additional seating. We’re looking to take on new recruits too to build on our successful team and the new brunch menu will feature modern interpretations on classic breakfast dishes.

“Coffee tastes and preferences are changing with many aficionados turning to smaller, independent coffee shops for a quality, well roasted coffee, over the larger chains and we have really experienced the benefit of this change in tastes. We take great care and pride in each cup of coffee we serve and Mancunians are recognising the difference in flavour and quality of speciality coffees.

“We’re hoping the expansion works will not cause too much disruption and we look forward to welcoming customers back into the shop from Monday 6th June to enjoy our speciality coffees and the new brunch menu.”

PKB offers a selection of speciality coffees, teas, hot chocolates, fruit smoothies, and brunch foods that are made on the premises, as well as a selection of indulgent cakes.

PKB only serves specialty grade coffee from the Arabica plant variety. Speciality coffee is hand picked in coffee farms and is only grown in special microclimates. It is distinctive due to its little to no defects and full taste.
