A highly rated housing solicitor has joined boutique Manchester-based commercial law firm Primas Law to spearhead the growth of its housing and regeneration team.

Sheila Whitton has joined Primas Law from Weightmans where she was a partner and headed up its social housing property team.

In a career spanning over 20 years, Sheila is regarded as one of the leading housing and regeneration specialists in the UK having been recommended by two leading guides to the best law firms in the world; Chambers and Partners, and Legal 500.

Sheila deals with all aspects of property work for clients including registered social housing providers, housing actions trusts and local authorities.

In her new role at Primas Law, Sheila will advise on large-scale social housing developments, managing the property transaction process from site acquisition right through to project completion. Her remit also includes managing complex regeneration schemes and developments for shared ownership, shared equity and market sale.

Commenting on her appointment, Sheila said: “Primas Law has a quality reputation throughout the North West and an emerging one in the South East. I was attracted by the ambition of the firm and that its focus is entirely on commercial clients and property sectors. The firm has a model that ensures its solicitors do what they do best; provide great legal advice to clients.”

Earlier this year, Primas Law opened an office in London, to complement its locations in Manchester and Cheshire.

Simon Baxter, who is head of the real estate department at Primas Law, added: “Housing and regeneration is a growing area of the firm and with Sheila on board we can broaden our offer to clients in what is a very complex area.

“Sheila has tremendous experience in her field, and a wealth of contacts within the sector.  Sheila’s work compliments the firm’s developer client base really well and we are genuinely excited about the firm’s growth into the public sector.”

Sheila has also spent time at notable firms including Brabners, Cobbetts and Freeths Solicitors.
