Microsoft back new Media City Expo

Microsoft back new Media City Expo

"We all need to future proof our businesses and where better to learn how to do this than in the heart of MediaCityUK with backing from Microsoft to Matmi."
Nichola Howard

AN events specialist has set up a new Media City Expo with backing from Microsoft to showcase the wealth of talent in the creative, digital and media industries across the region.

Leigh-based businesswoman Nichola Howard, from Launch Events NW, is passionate about the work organisations across the region do and wants to give them a platform at Media City Expo so they can help support business growth in the new digital world in Greater Manchester.

Joining her at the expo, which is free to visitors, will be leading organisations from Microsoft to Matmi, young entrepreneurs, and women who are breaking down barriers to become leaders in tech.

Organiser Nichola, said: “Greater Manchester is the second largest hub for creative and digital content across Europe, after London, and I want the Media City Expo to really highlight this by showing off the skills in the north and proving there is life outside of London.

“As a mum and a woman in business myself, I wanted to particularly show how women can have an equal footing in tech and also highlight the future talent that is emerging.

“Manchester’s creative, digital and tech sector is thriving and constantly growing, attracting experts to come and live and work in the region, so it is an exciting time and we want to make sure organisations keep up.

“We all need to future proof our businesses and the event will show how to keep up-to-date with digital, creative and media developments, and where better than in the heart of MediaCityUK. There is an abundance of talent in the region, with more than 4,200 tech companies in the region, which makes it the fastest expanding sector – so we all need to utilise what is on our door step.”

Media City Expo will be held between 8am and 4pm on Wednesday, May 18, and 500 visitors are expected to walk through the doors with up to 50 stands exhibiting from across Greater Manchester and further afield.

Naomi Timperley, who runs Coo Digital and Tech North Advocates, is partnering with the expo and will be hosting a ‘Women in Tech’ debate.

She said: “With an ever changing business landscape, businesses need to be embracing digital technology. Media City Expo will be highlighting some of what digital technology can bring to a business and I am proud to be hosting a discussion on women in tech. This is something that is a passion of mine and is the responsibility of all IT stakeholders, from government to small businesses, to take action now to encourage the uptake of STEM subjects by girls at school and university.

“It is important to remember that technology touches every aspect of human life, and for its future success we must ensure that both men and women are aware of the exciting and diverse career paths available."
