The Printworks Manchester Launches Design A Mascot Competition

The Printworks Manchester Launches Design A Mascot Competition

""

Sharpen those pencils – The Printworks has launched an exciting competition to find a new mascot and is looking for budding artists in the region to submit creative designs. The winning entry will win a once in a lifetime prize by having their mascot brought to life by Hollywood special effects make up artist and sculptor, Shaune Harrison, who created make up for Voldemort from Harry Potter.

The Printworks’ previous mascot, Harry the Hound, will retire this year after a faithful 13 years of service.

The mascot competition will be split into three categories; under 11s, under 16s and 16 and over and from these three categories, one winner will be chosen as The Printworks’ new mascot. The winning designs from each category will feature in their own comic strip within The Printworks’ newspaper – News of the Works – and the overall winning mascot will go on to have a regular comic strip and have their design created by Shaune.

The mascot design competition is open to Mancunians of all ages and Shaune himself will pick the winner along with a panel of judges. Entries close on the 28th February 2014 and the winners will be announced mid-March. The winner will work alongside Shaune to develop the design and bring it to life.

Shaune is coming to Manchester to open his own makeup academy later this year.  He started in the film industry in 1988 at the age of 20 working in the field of special make-up effects and has gone on to on work on blockbuster films including creating make up for Red Skull from Captain America.

Shaune has been involved in creating creatures and prosthetic make-ups on some of the world’s top grossing films such as: Harry Potter (1 – 8), Star Wars (Episodes 1 and 2), Sleepy Hollow, The Mummy, The Fifth Element, The Da Vinci Code, Captain America: The First Avenger and World War Z. He is currently working on Marvel’s Avengers 2 and has won several accolades including an award at the New York Short Film Festival for Art Direction.

Fred Booth, Centre Director said;
“The new mascot will be an essential member of The Printworks’ team and we want the new character to symbolise fun and entertainment, to be interesting, memorable and dynamic and to represent the legacy of The Printworks.

“I’m sure the winner will design us an awe-inspiring new mascot which expert designer Shaune will then bring to life. We are very honoured to have the help of such a successful movie legend and it’s a great opportunity for the winner to be part of such a unique experience. We have already had some fantastic entries and we look forward to seeing more creative designs from the people of Manchester.”
