Tiger Rock Hawker Hosts Charity Night To Raise Funds For The Lily Foundation

"The Lily Foundation keeps us going and offers a great sense of comfort in that it connects us with people in a similar situation"
Owner Vikki Teh

Tiger Rock Hawker has swapped its small plates for fundraising buckets in a bid to raise vital donations for The Lily Foundation.

The family run restaurant, owned by husband and wife duo Kean and Vikki Teh, hosted an exclusive charity evening at its Smithdown Road restaurant raising an impressive £1,755 for the cause, which helps those affected by mitochondrial disease.

It brings their fundraising total for the charity to more than £11,000 in the past six months.

Vikki and Kean’s nine year old daughter Scarlett suffers from mitochondrial disease which typically affects the energy of body cells, impacting people in multiple ways, depending on which cells are affected making the condition hard to diagnose.

Vikki said: “Having seen first-hand the effects that this disease can have has been incredibly difficult for Scarlett and for our family but The Lily Foundation keeps us going and offers a great sense of comfort in that it connects us with people in a similar situation. The work of the research team is fantastic and although there is currently no cure for mitochondrial disease, important steps have been made to make diagnosis faster and easier with treatments becoming more effective. The more we learn about mitochondrial disease the closer we will be to one day finding a cure.

“We hosted our charity evening in order to raise awareness of The Lily Foundation but also to give something back. We were honoured to welcome so many guests in to our venue for an evening of food, raffles and prizes as well as a wine tasting with House of Townend. It was great to see so many people turn up to show their support.”

Tiger Rock Hawker, which also has a second restaurant in the heart of the business district on North John Street, has supported a number of charity events to support The Lily Foundation in the form of sponsored bike rides and marathon runs. The restaurant also donates its tap water sales to the foundation, raising almost £2,500 since March 2018.
