On the 29th June, teams of runners will embark upon the Macc Attack, the latest fundraising activity in the 50 50 50 Challenge series. The 10k run takes place at AstraZeneca in Macclesfield, and includes a series of mini-challenges along the way. It aims to raise funds for East Cheshire Hospice.
Following on from the huge success of previous 50 50 50 challenges, this year’s event will challenge teams of five to run 10k each in support of East Cheshire Hospice. Runners will have to contend with a series of challenges along the way, including island hopping, bridge building and ferry boating.
The 50 50 50 Challenge team hope the event will help it reach its £100,000 fundraising target.
The East Cheshire Hospice has been caring for people suffering from life-limiting illnesses since 1988 and serves communities all across Cheshire.
The 50 50 50 challenge is spearheaded by Simon Hayward, chief executive of Cirrus, and a group of friends in Macclesfield.
Simon said: “After the huge success of last year’s 50 50 50, both the event itself and the tremendous 50 50 50 community we have built, we are looking forward to challenging ourselves once again to raise a significant amount of money for such a worthwhile cause.
“We founded the 50 50 50 Challenge in 2011 when one of our friends, Adam Broadbent, was diagnosed with terminal cancer. We reached our initial fundraising goal of £50,000 on Adams 45th birthday, within 10 months of launching the challenge. Sadly Adam died in August 2013 after taking part in many of our events. We have pledged to continue raising money and supporting The Christie as well as adding East Cheshire Hospice to the charities we support. We have now raised over £90,000 and hope to top £100,000 this year.”
