Monastery Trust launches volunteering programme

"They will form a vital part of our team and we want to offer them a fulfilling experience in return for their dedication and hard work."
Elaine Griffiths from the Monastery Trust

The Monastery Trust is looking to recruit up to 60 volunteers for a range of responsibilities from front of house greeters to tour guides, gift shop assistants, café staff, event operations and researchers.

Since the £3 million Welcome Wing was completed earlier this year, the Trust has been able to open the building to the public six days a week (except Saturdays), fulfilling a long-held ambition to make it more accessible to the community and schools.  As part of the redevelopment work, a new Victorian Pantry café and gift shop have opened as well as new spaces for education, health, well-being, research and development activities.

The Monastery continues to run as an award-winning wedding and corporate events venue seven days a week. All profits from events and activities are donated to the charity for the upkeep of the buildings and to support the innovative arts, health and education projects in the community, both locally and further afield.

Elaine Griffiths, chief executive of The Monastery Trust said: “We have spent the past ten years establishing The Monastery as one of Manchester’s top wedding and events venues to help fund are long term goal – to give the building back to the people of Gorton and Manchester. However, to remain open to the public six days a week, we need a small army of very special volunteers to fill key roles. They will form a vital part of our team and we want to offer them a fulfilling experience in return for their dedication and hard work. Most importantly we are looking for people to be our ambassadors, who share our values, respect the building, respect each other and can greet people with a welcoming smile. Volunteers have always played a key part in our success and helped us along on our journey.   As we enter a new and exciting phase, we have never needed them more than now.”

A series of volunteering open days will be run next month.  Anyone interested in attending should email volunteers@themonastery.co.uk with their name and telephone number.
