Trio earn their Stripes with charity gig

Three senior colleagues at conference and training provider Salford Professional Development drummed up cash for charity when they formed a rock band and put on a concert.

Dave Daniel, SPD’s bespoke and in-house training manager, formed The Adelphis with Phil Whitman, head of executive education, and programme manager Chris Reynolds for a one-off concert in aid of Key 103’s Cash for Kids.

The group – named after SPD’s Adelphi House headquarters – performed cover versions and their own songs at The Old Pint Pot next to the firm’s offices in front of dozens of supporters.

Their playlist included The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army, On Call by Kings of Leon and R’n’B classic Mustang Sally.

SPD delivers conferences and training across the UK and overseas, with a focus on sectors including health and social care, digital and creative, business and law, the built environment, education and public services.

Its staff voted Cash for Kids as the firm’s charity of the year for 2017 and they have raised hundreds of pounds so far by taking part in a 10k charity run, organising a cake sale and Superhero and dress-down days.

Future activities will include a Bad Tie day and Halloween fancy dress day, while events production and delivery executives Victoria Cooper and Kerrie Madden will be taking part in several 5k and 10k runs.

Cash for Kids helps disabled, disadvantaged and vulnerable youngsters across Greater Manchester. All the money it raises goes directly to good causes in the form of grants to individual children, schools and community projects.

Victoria, who co-ordinates SPD’s charity activities, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Cash for Kids this year.

“It’s a hugely worthwhile cause which makes a massive difference to the lives of children across Greater Manchester.

“We are keen to raise as much money as possible through a variety of activities. Phil, Dave and Chris were extremely brave in forming The Adelphis and taking to the stage and they made it a really memorable evening for everyone present.”

Michelle Williamson, Key 103’s Cash for Kids charity manager, said: “We’re thrilled that SPD has chosen us as its charity of the year.

“The funds raised are invaluable in helping us to support disadvantaged children in Greater Manchester. In 2016, we helped 72,262 children in Greater Manchester with a focus on supporting those suffering from disability, illness, neglect and those living in poverty.

“Thanks to supporters like SPD we hope to be in a position to help even more local children this year.”
