Chester Business Leader Recognised at Finance Director Awards

"The award tops off an exciting year at the company. We've seen impressive growth in 2018 and have even bigger ambitions for the next few years. "
Michael Graham

Sykes Holiday Cottages’ chief financial officer, Michael Graham, brought home gold at the Finance Director of the Year Awards.

The awards recognise the achievements of individuals and businesses within Liverpool, Cheshire and North Wales.

Michael impressed the judges with his leadership of the fast-growing cottage holiday company, which has recorded record sales and profit.

Michael joined Sykes in 2015, an experienced CFO who started his career at PwC, and is responsible for the planning and execution of the firm’s financial strategy.

Under his guidance, Sykes’ sales in the year to September 2017 rose 38 per cent to £37.5 million, compared with the previous 12 months. Profit in the same period rose 28 per cent to £8.8 million.

Now in their eighth year, the awards saw over 250 attendees come together to celebrate at the Hilton Liverpool Hotel.

This year’s ceremony took place on 8th November and was hosted by BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Hugh Ferris.

The awards are sponsored by business advisers Grant Thornton, Accountable Recruitment, Hill Dickinson and HSBC.

Michael said: “It’s brilliant to have taken home one of the trophies and a tribute to the great finance team at Sykes.

“The award tops off an exciting year at the company – we’ve seen impressive growth in 2018 and have even bigger ambitions for the next few years.”

Simon Massey, managing director at Accountable Recruitment, said: “I’d like to congratulate all of the finalists and winners. Finance professionals have a crucial role to play in driving our local organisations forward.

“The judges had to decide between a particularly high standard of individuals this year, showing that our region has some of the brightest and best finance directors around. Their combined excellence results in a significant contribution to the regional economy and these awards are a fitting tribute to that.”
