Lancashire Accountancy firm offers helping hand to flood-affected businesses

An accountancy firm is offering free payroll services for businesses in North Lancashire and Cumbria that were affected by the flooding last month.

Contractor accountancy firm, ICS, which is based in Lancaster, has launched the offer in a bid to help local companies get back on their feet after Storm Desmond hit in December last year. The businesses that are successful in applying will receive the payroll services free of charge for two months.

Sarah Spooner (pictured), ICS payroll manager, thought of the idea after experiencing the effects of the flooding first hand. Sarah said: “The ICS head office is on Caton Road in Lancaster which was badly hit by the storm. We had difficulties with our electricity and telephone lines, but that was nothing compared to what many local people and local businesses went through.

“It was devastating to see the damage caused to businesses in Lancashire and Cumbria and we understand how difficult it might be for them to get back on their feet. Dealing with their payroll might be the last thing on their minds when they have to arrange refurbishments and stock replacements among many other things, so if we can tick just one task off their long ‘to do’ list then we will be more than happy to help.”

ICS provides accountancy, administration and payroll services to contractors, freelancers and small businesses across the UK. The firm employs 40 local people at the head office in Lancaster.

Sarah, who has worked for ICS for six years, said: “We have over 40 years’ experience between the payroll team, so any business owner who decides to take us up on our offer will be in good hands. The successful applicants will have a dedicated payroll manager, so there’s no need to worry about being passed from pillar to post. They will also receive an initial face-to-face consultation so that we can find out more about the business and arrange the best payroll system that will be the most beneficial, convenient and successful for them.”

John Lyon, ICS managing director, commented: “There has always been a great community spirit in North Lancashire and Cumbria and this became even more apparent during the flooding in December. It was a very difficult end to 2015 for a lot of people and we want to help as many local people and businesses as possible get 2016 off to a great start.”

To apply for the two months of free payroll services, simply phone the ICS payroll department on 01524 580730 or email sarah.spooner@icsuk.com. There is no restriction on the type of business that can apply and those that are successful will be contacted by ICS directly.
