Lakes cake maker picks up national award

"''We are really thrilled to have our Chocolate Brodie Cake recognised by the judging panel.'' "
Lisa Smith owner of Ginger Bakers

Lisa Smith, owner of Ginger Bakers, based at Plumgarth’s, near Kendal, discovered on Thursday 17th October that the company’s Chocolate Brodie Cake had won a highly commended award in the Sweet Bake category in the annual Great British Food Awards.

The annual awards celebrate the country’s finest home-grown ingredients, as well as the hard-working folk who produce and cook with them.

This year’s judges, included Raymond Blanc, John Torode, Monica Galetti and Michel Roux Jr to name a few, tasted their way through a huge array of products across the 24 categories covering everything from beer, cheese, charcuterie, seafood and cake.

Ginger Baker’s Chocolate Brodie Cake is definitely a chocolate cake with a difference… and the judges decided to award this moist and intensely dark decadent cake, made with Hawkshead Brewery’s Brodie’s Prime Porter Beer a highly commended award recognising its deep complexity and richness.

Chief Ginger Baker, Lisa Smith, commented: ‘’We are really thrilled to have our Chocolate Brodie Cake recognised by the judging panel. Receiving a highly commended award demonstrates that we are creating excellent products that appeal to a broad audience and stand out on the national stage. Recognition like this is a real achievement for the team and recognises all the hard work they put into the business day in day out. We’ve loved collaborating with Hawkshead Brewery, working in collaboration like this opens up lots of opportunities for the businesses concerned and, in this case, has won an award.’’
