12-year old Lydia Ridgway from Timperley was named Best Junior Actress at the Wilmslow Festival of One Act Plays 2017 for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in ‘Oh, Mr Shakespeare’ performed by ACT I.
There were also a host of nominations at both the Greater Manchester Drama Federation (GMDF) One Act Play Festival and the Partington Players One Act Play Festival, for ACTS students including Lydia, as well as Jamie Bennett, Alex Swinton and Olivia Harris.
At the Partington Players Festival, ACTS celebrated an award for Best Writer and Director of an original play for Georgina Dalgliesh, a former ACTS student who beat off stiff competition with, ‘Art is in the Eye of the Beholder’ performed by ACT II, the school’s senior group.
Young director Georgina, aged 20, from Hale, who attended the theatre school for eight years and is a former pupil of Wellington School, Timperley said: “ACTS gave me a great opportunity to get started as a writer and director, as having a talented and committed group of young actors to work with made it a really enjoyable experience. I’m very proud of them all, as this award is testament to their excellent interpretation of the play.”
ACTS has recently taken up residence at the Jubilee Community Centre in Bowdon after it was forced to find new premises as refurbishment work gets underway at North Cestrian School, which had hosted its senior group for more than seven years.
However, the school has been welcomed at the Bowdon-based venue, with centre manager Katrina Parkinson commenting: “We’re very pleased to host ACTS at the Jubilee Community Centre. This is a well-established group that complements and enhances the diverse range of classes and societies already on offer here and we’re delighted to have such a popular and successful group join us.”
ACTS caters for 11 to 18 year-olds, and is run by experienced teachers who can help challenge and engage students, helping them grow in confidence as they develop their drama technique.
