Top Teaching Duo Launch New Tutoring Service

"For many parents, additional learning support for their child is crucial to helping them reconnect with learning, build their self-confidence and, ultimately, succeed. "
Maria Moyles

Two specialist teachers in English and Maths are launching a new tutoring service in Altrincham and surrounding areas to help pupils in need of additional support with their studies.

Maria Moyles, 34, from Altrincham and Stephen Readey, 49, from Bolton have created Learn North West, a tailor-made tutoring service that offers both group sessions and private classes in English, Maths and Science for pupils of Primary and Secondary age as well as supporting studies for school entrance exams.

Maria and Stephen still teach in schools and Maria is a GCSE examiner, which keeps them abreast of current curriculum requirements.  They are also advanced skills teachers (AST) – an accreditation awarded to teachers with excellent classroom practices, who share their skills with others in the profession – this means they can deliver the best education for students and train other teachers to achieve their standard of teaching, so every tutor at Learn North West is working to the highest standard.

Explaining the reason for launching the business, Maria said: “We understand the pressure felt by parents, teachers and students in the current school system, with class sizes growing, schools focussing on exam pass rates and entry into the best schools becoming increasingly competitive.  Parents want to do all they can to give their child the very best education available, but teachers in schools are stretched and can sometimes struggle to give the one to one support some children need to flourish.  For many parents, additional learning support for their child is crucial to helping them reconnect with learning, build their self-confidence and, ultimately, succeed.

“We felt there was a need for a local tutoring service that is more bespoke than the franchise-based, templated services that are currently available. Learn North West looks at the individual needs and learning goals of each pupil and provides the best tutoring provision to meet them.”

Learn North West runs group tutoring and one to one sessions on Thursday evenings from 4.15pm to 8.15pm at the Tesco Community Room in Altrincham. The sessions can cover English, Maths and Science for children in years four to 11 across areas such as entrance exams for Trafford schools, SATS and GSCE preparation as well as booster groups. Further group or individual sessions are also available across Greater Manchester. Prices start from £20 per hour for group sessions and £28 per hour for one to one classes.

Stephen added: “There are a number of reasons why a child may require additional tutoring, whether it is to prepare for a specific exam or just a general need for more support.  Whatever the need, we take a personal approach to study and have the best teachers to deliver it.

“What makes our service unique is that we are still living and breathing today’s education system, something many tutors stepped away from years ago. So, we can deliver with absolute precision what a student needs to meet the curriculum demands.”
