Belong Crewe Care Village

Belong Crewe Care Village is situated in Cheshire and can accommodate up to 66 residents. They were upgraded from ‘good’ to their ‘outstanding’ status in July 2017.

Staff were reportedly highly skilled, trained and motivated when caring for their residents and were encouraged by their management to develop their skills further during employment. They were able to adapt their service to meet the needs of residents with more complex requirements and had an excellent understanding of social and cultural diversity.

There was sufficient support in place from staff to encourage residents to eat and drink enough to keep up good health. Tailored care was provided to individual residents and social activities were encouraged. Read the full report here.

Cornmill Nursing and Residential Care Home

Cornmill Nursing and Residential Home is a family run business in Preston, Lancashire and was rated outstanding in the ‘Effective’, ‘Caring’ and ‘Well-led’ categories.

Residents of the home said that their wellbeing levels had improved after moving into Cornmill and relatives of people who resided there also said that they had noticed an increase in quality of life after their family member moved there.

There was a large focus on meeting the dietary needs of residents and tailored requirements were adhered to. There was little reliance on agency staff as it was understood that this could hinder the service provided. The environment was an enjoyable place to spend time and it was clear that work had been carried out on the home to ensure it was up to a high standard. Read the full report here.

Mary & Joseph House

Mary & Joseph House is situated in Manchester and was rated outstanding for all five of the categories reviewed — ‘Safe’, ‘Effective’, ‘Caring’, ‘Responsive’ and ‘Well-led’.

The home specialises in those living with Korsakoff syndrome and provides 11 self-contained flats and 30 single bedrooms. The report described the atmosphere as ‘truly open’ with internet stations and tablets available so residents could get in touch with family if they wanted to.

New staff were mentored and trained to a high standard to ensure that all carers were providing care at the same level. Residents felt happy and safe living there and their needs or complaints were handled thoroughly. Read the full report here.

St Stephen’s Nursing Home

St Stephen’s Nursing Home is situated in Blackpool and was rate outstanding for the ‘Effective’, ‘Caring’, ‘Responsive’ and ‘Well-led’ categories.

On their unannounced review, CQC found that staff at the home were exceptionally trained and dietary support was of a high standard. The nursing home can house a maximum of 31 people and is equipped for individuals with dementia or physical disabilities.

The manager was found to be kind and understood the importance of running a high-quality care home. Care records were used extensively and provided an in-depth overview of a resident and actions were taken to improve the independence of those who lived there. Read the full report here.

Belsfield House

In Blackpool, Belsfield House can support a maximum of 40 people and is designed to care for those with dementia, physical disabilities or mental health conditions. They rated good for ‘Safe’ and outstanding for ‘Effective’, ‘Caring’, ‘Responsive’ and ‘Well-led’.

There is a swimming pool on-site and all rooms are spacious with en-suite facilities. Leadership stood out as exceptional at Belsfield and this led to outstanding care being provided by other staff. Staffing ratio exceeded one staff member for every two people and additional staff were deployed to account for extra care need.

There is a large focus around diet and nutrition, and meal time was encouraged to be an opportunity for residents to socialise with one another. Read the full report here.

Rossall

Rossall Care Home is situated in Lancashire and received an outstanding score in all five of the areas reviewed.

Exceptional features that were picked up on by the reviewer included automatic bedroom lights that illuminated the path to the toilet and safety strips to reduce the likelihood of a fall. The kitchen was well-organised which meant that food standards were found to be high and varying nutritional needs were supported.

Chestnut Grove Rest Home

Chestnut Grove Rest Home is situated in Preston, Lancashire and was rated outstanding for ‘Caring’, ‘Responsive’ and ‘Well-led’ categories.

Chestnut Grove can provide accommodation for up to 11 older people and furnishings and decorations were found to be of high standard. Staff were well-trained in safeguarding procedures and appropriate risk assessments were in place. Training also ensured that people’s dignity, privacy and independence were all respected.

A key thing here was family involvement and the use of an iPad, iPod and telephone was available for people to use. Activities also stood out in the home as they were meaningful and varied. Read the full report here.

Links Lodge

Links Lodge care home is situated in Blackpool, Lancashire and can house up to 10 adults. This home specialises in supporting people with learning disabilities who are living with dementia.

People were assisted to grow flowers, fruit and vegetables in the garden areas and residents said that they were happy with the care and companionship they received at the home. Some relatives said that they wouldn’t want their family member to live anywhere else and were pleased with the care that was provided.
