From the Boot Room to the Manager

LFC legend of over 30 years

From the Boot Room to the Manager

"We are very pleased to welcome Roy to Jurgens for a great night of LFC stories."
Jurgens - Bar Manager

Jurgens Bierhaus, which opened at the start of the 2019-2020 football season, is rolling out a series of Ex LFC Legends nights. Jurgens which is based at the site of the old Tom Halls Tavern on the Strand in Liverpool city centre. Local in demand artist Paul Curtis was commissioned to create 2 main feature walls. First is a huge Jurgen Klopp portrait which faces customers as they enter the site. The second is a Hillsborough tribute wall and the venue is full of LFC memorabilia.

Friday 20th March will see an evening with LFC legend Roy Evans. From 8pm Roy will be on stage answering questions about his 30 plus year link with Liverpool Football Club.

An England schoolboy international, Evans was a defender who was a long way down the pecking order at Liverpool in the 1960s and 1970s—he also spent the summer of 1973 in the North American Soccer League with the Philadelphia Atoms. Liverpool manager Bill Shankly saw something different in Evans, suggesting that he try a career as a coach.

So began a long run through the rankings at Liverpool, starting as a coach under Bill Shankly, who retired in 1974 to be succeeded by assistant Bob Paisley. When Paisley retired in 1983, his own assistant Joe Fagan was promoted to the manager’s seat. Fagan retired after two seasons to be succeeded by striker Kenny Dalglish (who was appointed player-manager), and Evans was now coaching under his fourth manager. When Dalglish quit in 1991, Evans then found himself on the coaching staff of his fifth Liverpool manager in 18 years—Graeme Souness, a former Liverpool legend of course  who had previously been manager of Rangers.

With long-time first-team coach Ronnie Moran also on board at the same time, this internal coaching system at Liverpool became known as The Boot Room. Evans was the last  Liverpool manager to graduate from it.

A great night of football stories and nostalgia followed by live music is in store for all LFC fans both young and old.
