As part of Liverpool’s growing visitor economy, National Museums Liverpool’s award-winning events division continues to attract a high number of tourists and has welcomed over 10,000 guests to over 320 events this year alone, resulting in a 26% increase on last year’s turnover.

Now the fifth most visited destination in the UK for overseas visitors, recent figures show that last year Liverpool welcomed over 64 million tourists to the region of which a significant proportion can be attributed to business tourism. Alongside the likes of weddings and Christmas parties, Hosted by National Museums Liverpool has hosted a plethora of prestigious corporate events with the likes of KPMG, Tilney Investment, Barclays, HSBC, Aon Hewitt and Rathbones, which have welcomed guests from all over the world.

Head of Events at Hosted by National Museums Liverpool Katie Roberts said: “World Tourism Day offers us a fantastic chance to really pay homage to the tourism industry that is currently booming within our city. It’s also a great opportunity for us to take a step back and appreciate landmarks that make Liverpool itself so eclectic, and we’re incredibly proud to manage a number of these within our portfolio. Not only do our venues provide a wonderful free museum service to local people and tourists, but their history, architecture and collections are a huge draw for those from other parts of the UK and abroad who are organising corporate and private events.

“National Museums Liverpool achieved its highest annual visitor figure ever in 2017/18 across its eight venues, welcoming over 3.3 million people. With this in mind, Hosted by National Museums Liverpool aims to offer another aspect to enhance the tourism experience by offering a range of private and public events. For example, the team has delivered a series of intimate after-hours dinners whereby visitors can enjoy a private viewing of the Terracotta Warriors, which have been exceptionally popular with visiting corporate clientele.”

World Tourism Day comes just months after Hosted by National Museums Liverpool received the ‘Excellence in Business Tourism’ accolade at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards for the second consecutive year.

Katie said: “At Hosted by National Museums Liverpool, we take a creative and forward-thinking approach to business tourism, integrating the unique nature of our venues with exceptional hospitality and facilities. From international conferences to exciting fringe events, we offer memorable and unique occasions that have a true, long-lasting impact on our clients, and encourage a bespoke form of business tourism. The team and I find this very rewarding, especially as profits from events support our museums and galleries. By holding an event with us, clients are investing in the future of National Museums Liverpool and in turn our collections and social initiatives.”
