'Kid-chen Designer' Max Peacock
Seven-year-old Max Peacock, from Wirral, has beaten nationwide competition to scoop Benchmarx Kitchens’ newly-created ‘Kid-chen Designer’ role – following a hotly-contested countrywide search.
Max will now see his design become the company’s first kid-inspired kitchen, built for real by the expert design team at Benchmarx Kitchens. He’ll also be paid in fun days out to enjoy with his family!
The route to winning was a tough one. His imaginative design joined a shortlist of just 11 selected by the Benchmarx Kitchens’ design panel from over 550 applications received in response to the role. The final 11 were then included on the company’s website, with voting finally thrown open for the public to choose their winner.
The standard of entries was extremely high, but Max won over the hearts of visitors to the Benchmarx Kitchens website through an endearing video describing his design and his sheer enthusiasm for the project. People voted in their hundreds for their favourite option and selected him as the clear winner.
With the kitchen still the heart of the home, the Kid-chen Designer role was created by Benchmarx Kitchens to discover what children aged between four and eleven years old would include in their ideal family space. The brief was simply to let their imagination fly.
Packed with unique features, Max’s design impressed the panel of kitchen experts at Benchmarx Kitchens due to its inventiveness, build-ability and forward thinking.
Max’s kitchen included a hot chocolate machine, fridge with ice cream tap and a food delivery zip line – every foodies dream.
Judges also particularly loved the soft play area, accessed only by a secret tunnel and the chair elevator to his bedroom.
Max commented on his entry: “I love drawing and coming up with ideas. It was one of the teachers at school who mentioned Benchmarx Kitchens was looking for someone to do just that.
“I am so excited to have won and can’t wait to see what my design looks like when it is built and I can walk around it to see how it all works. I think my favourite part will be the tunnel to my own play area, which would be wonderful to have at home too!”
Bella Glenn, part of Benchmarx Kitchen’s design team and Kid-chen panel, said: “We were astounded at both the number of entries and the high-standard of designs we received. It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into the drawings, along with fantastic creative flair. It was really difficult to shortlist the hundreds of applications down to only 11, so I’m glad everyone had the chance to get involved in selecting the final winner.”
“It is no surprise that Max’s design had wide appeal with voters. He demonstrated consideration for how a kitchen could enhance family life, as well bringing in elements of originality. Max’s design was a firm favourite amongst the panel and ticked both of these boxes – I’m looking forward to seeing a zip wire that delivers the food when we build the kitchen for real!”
As the ‘Kid-chen Designer’ in charge, Max will play a key role in selecting the materials from the Benchmarx Kitchens Birkenhead branch to help create the finished article.
