Local boy and Stockport Metro swimmer Harry Lewis-Mitchell is celebrating following his incredible success at the National Age Group Swimming Championships in Sheffield.

Harry who is 15 and from Didsbury, who is also a student at The Manchester Grammar School (MGS), achieved a number of medals at the event and secured personal best times in each event.

Having been a keen swimmer since a young age, he reached the final in every individual and relay event he participated in, resulting in a gold medal in the 4 x 200m relay and a silver medal in the 100 m fly event.

Reflecting on his success, Harry said: “I am delighted with my performance and to have furthered my swimming achievements. These medals mean so much to me and the personal best times show how effective my training has been.”

Harry builds on his success from the 2012 Championships where he also secured a Gold medal. In 2013 however he improved on that with the achievements above and by swimming the fastest leg of the 200 freestyle session out of every single boy competing adding: “There were 160 boys competing in the heats so it was nice to know that I beat them. I also won by a clear two seconds in the final for the 4 x 200 freestyle relay, so I’m really pleased.”

Concluded MGS Director of Sport Mark Walmsley: “I am delighted to see one of our students thrive in a sport that they clearly love.”
