New management team announced at Worsley Park Marriott

This month, Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club has announced a new line up for its leadership and management team. The new five-strong team appointed are tasked with taking the hotel forward into a new era for the hotel and help position Manchester at the centre of the Northern Powerhouse.

With ever growing revenues being generated across Worsley Park, the reshuffle of the leadership team was driven by a national restructure to bring in fresh ideas and strategies across departments. This has seen the General Manager, Derek Harvey, appoint Darren Mercer as the new Director of Golf, Leisure & Rooms; Barbara Cohen as Multi Property Director of Human Resources; Joanne Moores in the role of Hotel Sales Leader; Karlie Mullineux as Director of Food and Beverage; and Jessica Crosby in a new Finance Manager’s role.

This recent changing of the guard has brought in fresh new ideas and perspectives that are hoped will reaffirm the Marriott Hotel & Country Club’s reputation as a jewel in the crown of Marriott hotels and the North West’s hospitality industry. General Manager at the hotel, Derek Harvey, who continues to lead the new team, adds; “We are all excited about what lies ahead, and we are sure that the new team will drive the hotel, restaurants, bars, leisure, spa and golf facilities forward as we grow deeper links locally, and grow our nationwide reputation for being one of the best destination hotels in the North West.”

Those taking up new roles within the hotel arrive into their new positions from other roles within Worsley Park itself; from other Marriott properties; or returning to Worsley Park following a career break. All, however, have a deep understanding of the property and the Manchester region to take Worsley Park forward.

With over 32 years in hospitality and leisure, Darren Mercer, the new Director of Golf, Leisure & Rooms, brings a raft of experience in running a wide range of departments to his new role. Darren joins the new role having worked with Marriott for over 20 years, at Marriott Breadsall Priory, Marriott Preston and Marriott Worsley Park hotels. This is an exciting time for both my career and Worsley Park as we take the property forward. I will be fixed in delivering the Marriott quality in service and the product that we offer, but will also be looking to identify areas that we can add further value to our guests and members experience – watch this space.”

Before joining Marriott in 2006 Barbara Cohen practiced her craft as a consultant at a leading London law firm. She now joins the team as the Multi Property Director of Human Resources. She said, “It is an exciting time bringing together a new team with fresh ideas and drive to take the property to our next stage. We have a loyal and hardworking team of staff at the hotel which have earned numerous awards for excellence in service, both internally from the Marriott group and externally through independent industry bodies.”

Karlie Mullineux also joins the new leadership team as the new Director of Food & Beverage.  Since working with Marriott in 1999 on a one year work placement as part of a BA Hons Business Administration degree, Karlie has held various positions at Marriott properties across the country. Now focusing on driving Food & Beverage forward at Worsley Park, Karlie says; “This is an exciting new role for me with the chance to really make my stamp on the direction of our three main food offerings at the hotel. We have loads planned.”

Now set to drive sales for the hotel is Joanne Moores in the role of Hotel Sales Leader for Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club. From event management to sales, Joanne has led teams across a range of hospitality brands most recently, and prior to her new role, as Assistant Director of the Pennines Sales Office for Marriott. She adds “Worsley Park has so much to offer the business and leisure customer and I’m proud to be part of the team looking to take the hotel forward, especially with an ever great emphasis form business on Manchester.”

Completing the new leadership team is Jessica Crosby who takes up the Finance Manager’s role. Having started her career in 2006 as a finance graduate at the V&A in Manchester, Jessica moved onto the Assistant Director of Finance at Manchester Airport in 2008 before making the move to Worsley Park in 2010. After a career break, Jessica now re-joins Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club as a Finance manager.

Derek Harvey, the hotel’s General Manager, adds, “We now have a new and exciting team in place, and are already seeing fresh thoughts and ideas being brought to the table. We are looking forward to the next era of Worsley Park and seeing our already stalwart reputation go from strength-to-strength.

Worsley Park’s facilities are regarded as some of the best in the region with 158 bedrooms including five suites, nine meeting and function rooms, three restaurants and bars, championship golf course and spa. The hotel and golf facilities are nestled amongst an idyllic leafy setting, just seconds away from direct transport links into Manchester and the surrounding area.
