EU Referendum blog leads to American TV appearance for NW employee

""

Penning a blog on the EU referendum has led to an appearance on a top-rated American television show for one Manchester employee.

Rosie Arnold, a copywriter and social media analyst for Manchester-based agency Venn Digital, appeared on Voice of America – the official external broadcasting source of the United States Government – yesterday evening to discuss her blog which documented the UK’s social media response to the ‘Remain’ and ‘Leave’ campaigns.

The current affairs show, which covers the world’s ‘most interesting news stories’ and has 3.7 million likes on Facebook, not to mention 594,000 followers on Twitter reached out to the 23-year-old after reading her in-depth analysis.

Rosie, who made her appearance in the Washington-based studio via Skype, lined up alongside a host of other pundits including  Nicolas Veron, senior fellow at Brussels-based economic policy Think Tank Breugel, Jill Malandrino, Wall Street & Markets correspondent and Vyacheslav Polonski, network scientist at the University of Oxford’s Internet Institute.

Rosie said “I was delighted when the Voice of America got in touch with me on Twitter to say that they’d enjoyed my blog and wanted me to appear on the show. Naturally the referendum has far reaching implications for the global community and it’s great to see that our counterparts across the pond are taking such a keen interest in how the campaign is being perceived on social media. I certainly didn’t expect my blog to lead to an appearance on American television but it just goes to show the connectivity that social media enables and the opportunities that it can unfurl.”

Brian Whigham, managing director of Venn Digital, added: “Venn’s weekly blog has a huge readership but I think all of us were a little surprised, not to mention thrilled, that it led to an appearance on American television for Rosie. I’m very proud of her achievement – at just 23 she is a fantastic ambassador for Venn.”
