Your Derwent & Solway and Allerdale Borough Council form partnership

Your Derwent & Solway and Allerdale Borough Council form partnership

""

A new partnership developed by Your Derwent and Solway, part of Your Housing Group, one of the UK’s largest housing associations and Allerdale Borough Council will benefit residents living in Moorclose, Mossbay, Northside, Hillside and Ewanrigg in Cumbria.

The initiative will involve the creation of a dedicated team, who will work alongside residents and other stakeholders to create a community vision and an action plan.  This will help people access activities and services in the areas tailored to their needs and aspirations. Local residents will be involved at every stage and given the chance to say what activities they feel are most important to them.

The focus will be around five key themes: Employment & Skills, Health & Wellbeing, Young People, Older People and Financial Inclusion.  A series of community consultations based on these themes will take place in early 2015 to enable local people to say what they feel is most important to them.  The dedicated team will then work alongside residents and partners to develop a range of services which meet these needs.

The partnership will aim to create employment and training opportunities, deliver projects and services which improve health and wellbeing, reduce isolation in older people, increase young people’s aspirations and provide access to appropriate financial services and advice.

Dawn Clark, Community Projects Manager at Your Housing Group said: "We own and manage 1,500 homes across these communities and are committed to improving the lives of residents and the wider communities in which they live. This initiative will allow us to create opportunities by listening to the community. We will consult with local people on a range of social issues, and work alongside the local authority and other partners to address them and to meet the needs of local people. This initiative supports our vision of ‘transforming lives and communities’.”

Councillor Alan Smith, Leader of Allerdale Borough Council said: “This partnership will build on the success of previous initiatives, such as the South Workington Neighbourhood Management Project, which not only helped residents improve their financial situations, but also boosted their health and well-being. It’s all about bringing communities together, giving them a say in what is most important to them, and providing them with the services, advice and assistance they need to transform their lives.”
