North West Property Owners Association (NWPOA) and local agencies have joined forces to announce a package of support for vulnerable tenants throughout the Christmas period and into 2018 following the implementation of Universal Credit.
Senior property expert in the Merseyside and Lancshire region John Bullock of the NWPOA said its members were seeking to support vulnerable tenants during the transfer from Housing Benefits to Universal Credits via a food voucher schme and energy saving service supported by Energy Projects Plus (EPPLUS) a local charity based on the Wirral.
"Our members have for some time expressed concern over the transition to Universal Credit which has affected some of their tenants and which will affect many more next year.
"Tenants have had to wait several weeks before receiving their Universal Credit benefit. This has caused them significant personal hardship and we hope by directing them to the charity we can reduce the levels of hardship in the Liverpool City Region and provide free food vouchers to the tenant dependent on need as assessed by the appropriate authorities."
The North West Property Owners Association was founded in 1860 and is the oldest association of its kind in the country. It represents landlords and property owners in the Liverpool City Region.
