A Manchester design and fit-out business are transforming university living across the UK and creating boutique accommodation for a new generation of students – which includes everything from bowling alleys, dens to games rooms.

Preferred Spaces, based in Sale and established in 1996, started out life transforming commercial offices, but when the recession hit in 2008, the business diversified into the sporting market (designing and fitting out football club shops and corporate boxes) and has now made a significant mark on the student amenity market becoming the become the preferred student living brand in the UK.

Jeremey Plastow, MD of Preferred Spaces, said: “The way students wish to live has completely evolved over the last ten years.  The tired halls of residence have gone and more emphasis has been put on creating inspirational living amenities that help to encourage collaboration and learning. We (Preferred Spaces) have grown organically and are now the market leader for design and build of student living solutions for the student population across the UK. We are proud to work with industry leaders to trail blaze design and build solutions - including newly built high-quality city centre apartments and listed properties”.

Preferred Spaces, who will turnover £15million this year, employs sixteen staff and has built close working relationships with its core client base and suppliers to find the best value - which it credits for the expansion of the business.

The business has worked with clients in most major cities across the UK (including Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds, London and Edinburgh) on developing high-quality living spaces and recreational facilities.

The specification in all of the student living accommodation spaces across the UK is high-end, featuring Farrow and Ball paints, quality fabrics and durable but modern furniture, including Chesterfield sofas.
