Urban Splash Confirmed As Most RIBA-Decorated Developer

""

Renowned regeneration company Urban Splash has been named as the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) highest ever award-winner.

The list, published in today’s Architect’s Journal, confirms that since its inception in 1993, Manchester-based Urban Splash has received 11 national RIBA awards for its developments – five more than its nearest competition. In total the company’s developments have won 57 RIBA awards including regional efforts.

Speaking of the news, Urban Splash Chairman and co-founder Tom Bloxham MBE said he was delighted by the findings and that architecture ‘is in the firm’s DNA: “Great architecture is part of the reason we get out of bed every morning,” he said. “We like to push it, have some fun with the architects and get as much as we can out of every building.”

The first ever Urban Splash building to secure a RIBA Award was the Schoolhouse in Trafford Park in the mid-1990s; part of that building has recently been refurbished to attract contemporary occupiers. Other developments in receipt of RIBA Awards include Lakeshore in Bristol, Chips in Manchester, the Royal William Yard in Plymouth and Park Hill in Sheffield. In 2013, that Grade II Listed building was also shortlisted for RIBA’s premium award – the Stirling Prize.

Urban Splash has won more than 350 awards for its commitment to architecture, design and regeneration. Its current live schemes include hoUSe and Stubbs Mill in New Islington, Park Hill in Sheffield and Royal William Yard in Plymouth. For further information visit www.urbansplash.co.uk.
