Bubble Jobs Joins EC Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs

Bubble Jobs Joins EC Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs

""

Bubble Jobs has become the first job board to join the European Commission’s Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs initiative.

Launched in March 2013, the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs is a European Commission Initiative designed to tackle the critical shortfall of talented ICT experts across the continent.

The initiative aims to increase the supply of ICT practitioners by 2015, addressing Europe’s predicted shortage of 900,000 ICT professionals by 2020.

Bubble Jobs has made a number of pledges to the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs to raise awareness of digital and ICT careers across the UK, joining the likes of Samsung, Accenture, HP and Google.

Bubble Jobs MD Adam Butwilowski said:

“We’re thrilled to be part of such a great initiative and are extremely pleased that we play a key role in helping the Grand Coalition achieve its objectives.

“We’ve been working really hard to raise awareness of digital careers over the last couple of years – so it made sense to commit to going the extra mile to educate job seekers across the UK.

“This pledge proves that we’re so much more than a regular jobs board, and being able to do this with the backing of the European Commission is incredible.”

As part of its pledge, the job board - which specialises in advertising vacancies in the digital sector - has vowed to train and inform career advisors at higher education institutions across the UK about the potential careers available within the digital industry.

Starting with a minimum of eight workshop events in the next 18 months, their aim is to educate, raise and improve career advisors’ awareness and knowledge of the digital industry, along with the jobs that go with it.

This advice will then be passed down to the UK’s 2.3 million higher education students, offering them an alternative route into the world of work.

Vice President of the European Commission Neelie Kroes backed Bubble’s pledge calling it “fantastic news”.

She said:

“Bubble Jobs making a pledge to help train career advisors in universities and colleges across the UK is fantastic news. We want more small businesses to join this Coalition, as innovative small business are the heart of job creation. A small business that helps others find the right digital workforce is a double win."

“Companies in Europe are in serious need of workers with digital skills, and our young people are in serious need of jobs. That’s why the European Commission created this platform – the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs – which matches the two together, and allows people to exchange ideas and learn from each other.”

Bubble’s pledge came after OFSTED’s damning criticism of the careers advice offered in educational institutions in the UK, describing it as “failing to provide good guidance” to students.

Bubble Jobs MD Adam Butwilowski added:

“Through talking to students at various career fairs and career advisors themselves, we realised there was a severe lack of knowledge in this area regarding digital careers, so we wanted to do our bit to address the problem.

“We’re already planning our first pilot event with Manchester Metropolitan University – and the aim of these events is really to ‘educate the educator’.

“If we can keep career advisors in the loop regarding digital jobs and the changes in the industry, they’ll be better placed to provide valuable, relevant career advice to their students and graduates.

“That should, in turn, help to address the current skills shortage which is evident right across the digital sector.”

As part of their pledge, Bubble Jobs has also vowed to help raise awareness and promote digital apprenticeships to UK job seekers and small to medium-sized businesses.

This will include the ongoing creation of useful and relevant content on a dedicated Apprenticeship section of Bubble's Digital Career Portal, promoting digital apprenticeships via a dedicated Twitter account and pro-actively promoting the courses to both a job seeker and employer audience via their online channels.
