Aviate welcomes six new apprentices

"All of our apprentices will be offered a permanent position when their apprenticeship comes to an end, so there are real progression opportunities."

Aviate, the Cheshire-based travel company, recently welcomed its first apprentices to the growing business.

The apprentices have joined a number of departments including HR, finance, IT and customer services, combining on-the-job training to offer candidates an alternative route into a career within the industry.

The apprentices have been offered a permanent contract with the company, combined with an apprenticeship qualification undertaken over a 12 to 18 month period. The qualification will include attending the South Cheshire College one day per week.

With its head office based in Cheshire, Aviate provides a search, booking and ticketing service to the UK travel trade and now offers fares on behalf of more than 40 major airlines. The business has grown substantially in the past three years, with staffing levels increasing by 300% to a current workforce of 60.

Pheobe Evans, who joined Aviate’s apprentice programme in September as a finance assistant, commented: “I always knew I wanted a career in finance, and I decided that an apprenticeship was a great way to kick-start my career in this sector.

“Although I’m only a few weeks into the course, it’s been fantastic. I’ve learnt so much already and I’ve been offered support and guidance along the way. It’s been rewarding applying all that I learnt in my Economics A-level in my day-to-day role.”

Michael Edwards, managing director of Aviate, added: “We’ve selected a number of bright, ambitious, hard-working individuals who wanted the chance to earn while they learn and build a career.

“All of our apprentices will be offered a permanent position when their apprenticeship comes to an end, so there are real progression opportunities.

“Aviate continues to grow at a rapid pace, and we’re committed to investing in our people. The apprenticeship programme enables us to build on our own talent pool, and ensure that succession plans are in place for all staff, regardless of which stage they are at in their career.”

The apprentices have access to all company perks, which include free car parking, a pension and bonus scheme and free gym access. The apprentices have a personal development plan in place, with regular reviews and on-the-job support and guidance. The apprentices also have access to a dedicated mentor to offer support and guidance during the programme.
