Rebecca, 25, of Barrow-in-Furness, applied for a role on reception at the four-star Abbey House Hotel through a new bespoke service for employers struggling to find suitable employees.

 

A learner studying maths at PHX Training’s Barrow centre, Rebecca was working in a café at the time but wanted a new challenge, in a role which would provide the opportunity for progression.

 

Debbie Cameron, front office manager at Abbey House, wanted a person with the right skills and personality, a friendly face to create a positive impression as visitors enter the hotel.

 

PHX Jobmatch posted the vacancy and screened all applications, checking the potential candidates had the required skills for the role, before selecting three suitable contenders to put forward for an interview.

 

The team then conducted practice interviews with each candidate, helping them to prepare for the final stage of the application process, an interview with Debbie at Abbey House.

 

Rebecca was successful and began her new role of receptionist in January, responsible for a range of duties including greeting guests, managing bookings and dealing with telephone and email enquiries.

 

She is also about to embark upon business administration and English courses through PHX Training.

 

Rebecca said: “When I found out about the vacancy I was really excited as it was a great opportunity, and everyone at PHX has been really helpful throughout the whole process. I’m really enjoying my new role at Abbey House and I’m looking forward to developing my skills.”
