Retail business transformed by online sales operation

"SYPO were very helpful and responsive throughout. They were always willing to listen, and to implement exactly what suited my business. "

An electrical goods retailer took to selling on the internet with huge success, thanks to the efforts of a Kendal web development company.

SYPO (Sell Your Products Online) created a website for Milnthorpe-based Clocktower, but also encouraged them to sell online and created an e-commerce site which has led to a much wider customer base.

Clocktower, established in 1982, is an independent electrical retailer, with a large store in Milnthorpe, selling a wide range of quality home appliances, accessories and spares.  They offer both built-in and freestanding appliances at competitive prices and the high standards of customer service and advice expected from a local specialist. They stock leading brands including Bosch, Hotpoint, Beko, Liebherr and Neff.

But thanks to the SYPO-built website, they are now offering that same service to customers from across the UK.

“We set up the website two years ago and after noting the many enquiries which came from there, we went live with the e-commerce site earlier this year,” said SYPO owner and MD Alan Jewitt.

SYPO also set up a Braintree payment system for the Clocktower site, a slick and easy way to facilitate check-out, and also custom-built a desktop till system at the showroom. The Point-of-Sale system that SYPO developed for Clocktower allows them to record transactions and more importantly customer details, therefore building a database for future marketing purposes.

“We worked with Kendal marketing experts Creative Lakes to develop a system which suited the Clocktower operation very precisely,” said Jewitt.

Neil Corrigan of Creative Lakes said: “There is a perception among local shop keepers that they need to go to big city web agencies and spend tens of thousands of pounds on creating an online shop when the reality is that they can get quality service on their door step for much less.”

Clocktower MD Tom Harvey was thrilled with the results. “It’s an investment that has been very worthwhile from our point of view,” he said.

“SYPO were very helpful and responsive throughout. They were always willing to listen, and to implement exactly what suited my business. They delivered what they promised on a good budget and to a good timescale.”

SYPO, based in Sand Aire House in Kendal, has some 200 customers ranging from major enterprises to solo operators; the aim is always to simplify the process of trading via the internet, and to increase efficiency.
