Dept continues to grow exponentially with 14 new hires

"Im looking forward to helping Dept cement its leading position in the UK and US as we continue to expand our service offering."
Mellissa Flowerdew-Clarke

The agency has welcomed new employees across a range of teams including Front-End Development, UX, Content, and Business Analysis. New hires include Senior UX Designer Lee Murray, who joins Dept from the Digital Product Research team at Co-op, Front-End Developer Joe Stephens, founder of Manchester Codes, and Business Analyst Naaman Hudson, who joins from travel brand Super Break.

Dept, which was previously known as Building Blocks, has also welcomed back Mellissa Flowerdew-Clarke as Marketing Director. Mellissa held the same title at Building Blocks prior to its acquisition by Dept, and has been brought back in to lead the marketing strategy in the UK and US. Speaking of the appointment Mellissa said, “It’s hugely exciting to be back. The evolution of Dept over the past year has been astonishing; we’re now one of the largest agencies in Europe employing over 1,000 people."

The growth is showing no signs of slowing down, with the agency actively seeking to grow its teams of .Net, Java and JavaScript Developers, Project Managers, System Administrators, QA Analysts, Business Consultants, UX and Creatives.

When reflecting on the growth, Jonathan Whiteside, who co-founded Building Blocks and is now Strategy Director at Dept, said, “Our people are at the heart of the business; without them, we wouldn’t be able to accelerate the digital reality for our clients in the way that we do. This makes for a vibrant culture that is hinged on innovation, development, recognition and, of course, fun. We want our team to be proud of the agency they work for, and wake up every day happy that they’re part of it.”
