New Accessible Careers Site for Auto Trader by magneticNorth

"Striving for an intuitive, accessible design seems like a no-brainer but its something that a lot of career sites ignore."
Ian Wareing, Senior Account Manager, mN

Headquartered in Manchester, Auto Trader has transformed the car sales industry over the last 40 years. Today, the marketplace is a FTSE 250 company, attracting on average 60 million cross platform visits to its marketplace each month as it continues to sit at the heart of car buying and selling for UK motorists.

The new careers site aims to attract a range of candidates from developers to account managers and accurately reflects Auto Trader’s company culture. The site demonstrates how the tech company is developing its people, who work collectively to create innovative, digital products and discover new ways to serve Auto Trader customers.

Jane Fitzmaurice, Resourcing Partner from Auto Trader said: “We have some of the most exciting and inspiring opportunities. Our new career site will provide an improved candidate experience and the chance for individuals to get an insight into our working life so they can make the right choice for them”

The site, which has been designed by digital design studio, magneticNorth, aims to appeal to a diverse audience. Similarly, its visual identity moves against the typical ‘digital company’ perception of ‘scrums’ and group working as it acknowledges that not all employees are suited to working in this way.

Fitzmaurice, adds: “We wanted to open up the accessibility of the site not only because this reflects our inclusive company culture but also because we wholeheartedly believe that a diverse workforce creates better products.”

The site, which aims to achieve an AA rating for accessibility, has been designed and developed working with Auto Trader’s own ‘Accessibility Guild’, which champions accessibility throughout the organisation.

Ian Wareing, Senior Account Manager at magneticNorth commented: “Striving for an intuitive, accessible design seems like a no-brainer but it’s something that a lot of career sites ignore. With much of Manchester and the UK fighting over tech talent, this site helps open up Auto Trader’s job roles to a wider pool of applicants, also giving light to the company culture of one of the UK’s most exciting tech companies.”

Auto Trader will be monitoring the results of their new design and will release information on the new site’s impact in Spring 2018.
